When I´m Not Reading is a weekly meme hosted by Missie at The Unread Reader.
*sigh* Yes, the winters in Germany, especially in Bavaria and the region where I´m from can be very cold with a lot of snow. And yes, when I´m home for Christmas, I really enjoy it when the fire crackles in our fireplace. Very much. It´s jst part of winter and Christmas for me.
But sadly, all the chopped fire wood does not magically appear. It has to come from somewhere. So each year in autumn, a friend of ours comes with his truck (the green one in the pictures) loaded with the chopped firewood and just unlaods it in front of our house. We have to put it away so it won´t get damp. (By the way, the first of the two dark cars is mine!). That involves a lot of sweat, cursing and pushcarts (see pictures on the right). All the while I was thinking of all the better uses for all the wood. Imagine all the books you could have made out of it! It took us about four hours of work until it was finally stuffed away someplace dry. I thought it couldn´t get any worse than that, but we were actually quite lucky. As soon as we were finished it started raining and now, it´s quite cold and unpleasant. Guess what? We actually started a fire just because we can now!
Also, later today I´ll be doing some baking, as tomorrow is my birthday. I´m going to celebrate with my family this weekend and with my friends some time next week. I´ve been looking for some recipes for a while now and just this week I´ve found the right one. The cake is called “Death By Chocolate” *evil grin*.
I LOVE the name. Just because of that I would bake it. Seriously! The recipe involves 2 pounds of pure chocolate, cream, butter and lots of sugar. Top that with creamy chocolate frosting and you´re done. Sounds easy so far, but I guess everyone who eats a slice of that cake will instantly gain two pounds of weight, but so what. Ill let you know how it turns out!
