Review: “Immortal” by Lauren Burd

Immortal

Title: Immortal

Author: Lauren Burd

Genre: Young Adult/Paranormal

Published: September 6th 2010 by Lauren Burd

“Gods, demons, fiends: eighteen year old Alina Taylor doesn’t believe in any of them, until she meets Samuel Grant and Duncan Michaels, and discovers a world that could destroy everything she loves.”

*I was given my copy by the author for review*`

“Immortal” starts out as something that feels familiar: a girl with family trouble starts a a new school and meets two breathtakingly attractive guys who both are instantly drawn to her. Each one has his very own way of showing said attraction. Duncan is a player. While he claims to  be in love with Alina, he still dates her best friend and doesn´t seem to accept no as answer. Samuel on the other hand seems to avoid her as much as possible when he doesn´t save her from being hit by cars. Both guys definetly have their appeal and while on the superficial level I prefered Duncan´s green eyes over Samuel´s blue, it´s dark and mysterious Samuel I rooted for throughout the book. Players are just nothing for me I guess. Alina also has feelings for both candidates. She cares for then and has a hard time deciding who she reall loves.

There are a few incidences that make you wonder whether something strange, paranormal goes on (the near fatal car accident I mentioned before), however, the revelation that both guys are infected by a virus that not only makes you heal fast but also immortal comes a bit out of the blue. It does explain their history and the reason why they can´t seem to stand each other. At first, Alina deals surprisingly well with the new-found knowlegde. It seems to help her chose between Dauncan and Samuel

Then however, a dangerous threat and vicious enemy, not only to her but to all people important to her, appear and Alina is forced to react. At this point, the book leaves the path of something slightly familiar and makes a turn for the better. In the end, I was left a little bit confused (in the positive way) as someone seems to switch sides, but nontheless curious how the story would go on.

“Immortal” is an enjoyable and light read for all fans of Twilight. I know that Lauren Burd doesn´t like to hear that, but I´m not saying it´s like Twilight! :) There are a few elements you might think you´ve read before, but if you keep on reading, you´ll be awared with an unexpected twist and a exciting teaser for the next book in the series, “Forever”.

To learn more about Immortal and Forever or simply to stalk the author, check out her blog!

I´m also having an interview with Lauren in a few days, so make sure to check back!

Im currently reading it. No offense to the author but i feel like I am reading twilight. She mentions cool skin, intoxicating breath, beautiful people, then there's the near rape incident she's saved from. Some lines are direct quotes from twilight, i checked. And while its a coincidence, it's still annoying. Also the girl reminds me very much of bella and her shy + embarrassed qualities. Another thing is the restaurant scene, where the waiter is completely ignorant of her and he's is unaffected. Still a good read, but keep in mind,it is not original. Also, fun game if you want to look for twilight quotes and similar situations!

Ok ya its like twilight in some way, to say the truth I kind of hated it. I know how could I?!?! But it was REALLY CHEEESY no offence to all youu twi-hards out there buy ya. This book is different in so many ways. Like there's two guys but their both vams. And they're in college not in hiigh school and bell has a stick up her a** and shows no emotion. Aliina crys, laughs, yells, and sceams in this book and I'm soo glad. But like I side I don't want to offened any body soo I'm sorry but these are only my opinons.
